Field & Lab Technicians

SUMMARY:

Performs tests of construction materials on site or in controlled laboratory situations. Provides test results to Laboratory Manager, Project Manager, Principal Engineer or Project Superintendent for specific jobs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs field testing of concrete samples.
Tests soils and asphalt for density and conducts batch plant inspection of concrete and asphalt.
Performs inspections during the installation of various construction materials.
Reviews project instructions to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions.
Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives.
Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product and test method.
Cares for and maintains test equipment.
Communicates regularly with client and contractor personnel on job sites.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or college degree and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. ACI and/or VDOT Certified

Geotechnical Engineer

SUMMARY:

Directs and executes geotechnical project assignments including ; field exploration, laboratory assignments and services, foundation and pavement design recommendations, and preparation of Geotechnical reports. Supervises laboratory testing operations and maintains lab accreditations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Produces project reports for clients. Advise clients on options for further testing.
Directs and supervises drilling crews, conducts soils classifications, and preparation of Geotechnical reports.
Prepares operational schedules and coordinates testing activities to ensure timeliness and that the quality of testing meets proper specifications.
Works with clients to insure satisfaction with job performance and to resolve disputes.
Maintains Quality Manual and ensures execution and efficiency of Quality System as detailed in the QM. Fulfills responsibility of Laboratory Supervisor in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
Performs field work when necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises technicians and other employees in the Construction Services departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
